After talking it over with my survey hound predecessors, we decided it would be in the server's best interests to move to the automated input system for adding resources to the GH lists. The request is in to powers that be, but of course it will take a bit of time (weeks) to get it all coded and implemented as well as updating it to including more server specific data such as schematics and creature sources. SO, in the meantime, I propose a bit of a labour union to help spread the workload, allowing for the data to be as up to date as possible at any given interval.

Many hands make light work, so in my opinion the best way to achieve this will be to assign a planet to a person. Ideally it will be one where they already spend a great deal of their time, so as not to put them terribly out and ensure that keeping things updated is as easy as cycling through your survey tools while you're killing time between factory runs and grabbing the stats for anything new that pops up that day. (I use the Survey Tool page of GH to checklist through these quickly.)

Survey Team Requirements:
• Galaxy Harvester Account
• A character that can use survey tools

The wrench in the works here is Creature Resources. Now the most precise way to gather these is by use of a scout/ranger harvesting their way through the checklist. However, some of these resources are only available on certain planets through use of the automated creature farm which can only be crafted & placed by a Miner, requires 6 lots, cannot be surveyed for, and thus cannot predict which resources it will pull in any given area. As a result, this may require a bit of teamwork.

Creature Team Requirements:
• Galaxy Harvester Account
• Miners will need an Automated Creature Farm and 6 lots to place it
• Rangers will need a fishing pole and a Shellfish Harvesting Tool (quest item)

Planets List:

• Corellia
(S) Durik

• Dantooine

• Dathomir

• Endor

• Lok

• Lothal

• Mandalore

• Naboo
(S) Daq

• Rori
(S) Daq

• Taanab

• Talus

• Tatooine

• Yavin IV

If you want to help out just reply with your ideal planet or planets (please specify if you're doing surveys or creatures) and I'll get you on the list! I'm not really picky which planet(s) I do, so I'll take whichever are left over.

How/what does the automated process do?

Is there some kind of log file that gets parsed or something?

Merrine stays on Corellia running NeXus all the time, and we have a stationary harvester field that I can drop and keep an active auto creature harvester on easily enough. I just don't get a lot of time to PLAY the game much, and I am not a crafter, so I really don't care what resources are what.

However, if there is a way I can help you without going too far out of my way or staring at a website all day, id like to do so. I just need to understand the process more so I know what would be needed of me, because right now I'm clueless.

Also, I don't understand why the GH is so important. When a resource is gone, its gone. What does it matter if something WAS or is the server best, when it is used up, only the people hoarding it will have it. I can understand the importance of knowing when something is currently up that we need to pull as much as we can of it as fast as possible, but after that's gone, why should we keep track of the past?

Please understand I'm not trying to be subversive or argumentative, I'm truly ignorant. I've never been a crafter in this game, and my resource empire I've been building is solely off of selling bulk res at cut rate prices...

What does GH do? It is not what it does but what the server does to it

I do not know the exact mechanics, but I have a general idea of how this works.

The server has a data base of all resources and their stats. The data base is scanned and then the parsed data uploaded to Galaxy Harverster
As changes occur, thos changes are uploaded.

All the spawns of all the resources, with all their stats will be sent to GH in almost real time, or at least at some short interval

This way, if you are looking for that steel with high UT, SR and HR, your play time is not consumed with surveying every planet every day. Server uploading their resource data base to Gh allows you to track multiple resources without dedicating your entire play time to searching for resources

The draw back is that crafters whose mini game is resource sleuthing lose their mini game. These folks have an advantage right now.

The other drawback is players cannot keep a good spawn secret any more. The tendency is to think of your buds first, then the server second.

As to why it is tracked from the past, concerning server best, I think you need a reference but as far as saving non-special stuff? that is a GH thing and not sure why we need to know what spawned 6 months or a year ago

BTW server best is REAL important. over time, server best for a given resource becomes more uncommon. At some point the server best will be the best that ever comes around. It will never come around again so getting your boots filled with it is important if you are a crafter.

I can't effectively explain this part of it (I barely understand, seen it done but never done it myself) but it's something like that.

For most people it's more about tracking what is up now with a single glance, rather than running all about the galaxy trying to figure out which resources on which planets are worth pulling. When you create an account on GH you get access to a whole bunch of new custom tools and a more fleshed out home page.

You can set up custom alerts based on your profession (stuff for Jedi and Smuggler too, not just artisans!) or you can set them up for specific resource types, such as the fancy metals needed for NGE houses.

Another of the custom features is the resource library. By simply clicking the star in the corner of the resource's info boxy whatsit you can favorite it which will quickly add it to your library. Then when you absolutely need to make the best whatsit you can, you can pull up the schematic in GH and it will show you which of the resources in your library to combine to get the best possible result.

As to tracking things from the past... By looking up a schematic on GH you can see two seperate 'suggested materials' lists. One for best currently spawning mats, and one for the all-time best. If you really needed to make it the all time best you would then know the exact name and could ask around friend/guildies/auction for it. In addition, some resources actually repeat over time (depending on server settings) so what is gone today could return in a year or so, though it may no longer be server best by that time. Notice, it also compares items from your resource library against the current and all time server best as well as showing you how much better something is.

(Legible Version)

Don't worry, you're safe here dear and I'm very glad you asked! I'm a high-functioning aspie so I always assume it's a genuine question and do my best to answer. In the past I've found that even if the OP is being snarky and it flies over my head, someone will come along later that would actually like to know. I really don't mind taking the time if someone can benefit from the response either way. Feel free to shoot me more questions if anything was unclear.

Rabidchinchilla,

I am not 100 percent, but I am pretty sure that a resource will never come around again

When a resource is generated, the stats are randomly assigned a value, and a name is randomly generated

While there might be a Kaassian reactive gas with the same stats again, it is my understanding that there will never again be a Kaasian reactive gas called nigmoha.

of course, I might be wrong, my ex will tell you I was never right.

BTW was reading Raph Koster's blog He says there were (are now too I assume) 474 separate resources. Some were for items that were never added to the game.

Is the automated tool still being worked on? I've been updating GH quite frequently the past week but I'm going to burn out eventually if I have to constantly alt tab back and forth typing in everything then triple checking to make sure there are no typos.
